The exhibition about loving heart and home space

B09k Lunar Practices 2024 XII
Changsha, Dec01–Dec29, 2024

I rented an apartment as my studio and living room in 2023. Over this year, I spent most of my time in this room, residing, cooking, reading, preparing for my teaching materials, and my art practices. There is a close relationship between me and the room. The living room and bedrooms have my household items and artworks, both of which placed my living practices, those physical, individual and emotional. Together, these have made the room a "home studio," and at the same time, the "home studio" forms a productive statement of "I."

Most of my creations in this room are still in heart shapes, still in love with the heart. And I realize that the heart has always been a territory, the land, but nomadic. The creation of every heart is my identification with the land.

During the B09k Luna Practices in December, the "home studio" will open an exhibition to the public, opening on 09. Dec, 14. Dec, 21. Dec, 28. Dec, from 14:00 to 19:00.

The Heart

2021

In 2021, I stumbled upon these two ground bollards on the streets of London. Coincidentally, when I stood them up on their sides and brought them together, they formed a heart shape—one bollard became the left side of the heart, and the other the right. I took this "coincidence" home, turning it into a piece of my artwork.

The "coincidence" was my first heart piece, and ever since this heart appeared, I have continuously encountered hearts in my life.

The “Heart” seemed too lonely on its own, so I made the “Cake” to pair with it. This pair is my graduation work- The Cake and Heart, Happy Together!

Cindy and Stella look like a couple of lovers or friends. No need to say how cute and recognizable they are. Everybody likes them! Every art scene needs a work of art like this!

TV Body draws inspiration from Luce Irigaray's Speculum of the Other Woman. Television images extend our vision to every corner of the world, yet the television signals and signal-receiving antennas that transmit these images to each television—are often forgotten. The forgotten mirrors the missing "passage" in the Platonic cave, as revealed by Irigaray: the passage between "reality" and "representation," much like reproductive organs, yet remains forgotten.

Here, the television and signal antenna are presented as a whole body.

Of Course I’m Willing to Take the Stars for You; A Consciousness of the Pleasure

Photographic image printing, lightbox installation 240x80cm, 2019
Video 3′ 47′′, 2019

From 2016 to 2019, while living in Guangzhou, I spent much of my time in parks. To me, the park was like a theater—a place where the ordinary could feel dramatic, and the dramatic could seem utterly ordinary. My time there became a practice of discovering this everyday and theatrical (if you'd call it a "discovery"). Of Course I’m Willing to Take the Stars for You and A Consciousness of the Pleasure emerged from these discoveries. These two works were later presented in my graduation exhibition in 2019.

In the park, I encountered many bald-headed people and couldn't help but feel that the bald heads from behind resembled stars in the universe. Like collecting, I started photographing them one by one. One day, I finally put all these "stars" together: "Of course I am willing to take the stars for you."
